Khan made appearances as a child artist in his uncle Aamir's films Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak 1988and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander 1992. Both times he played the role of a young Aamir Khan. He aspired to be a director, as that was his original plan before he entered Bollywood as an actor. Imran Khan joined Kishore Namit Kapoor's Acting Institute in Mumbai.Imran Khan made his debut as a lead actor in the 2008 film Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na directed by Abbas Tyrewala, produced by Aamir Khan and Mansoor Khan and co-starring Genelia D'Souza. The film received rave reviews from critics and proved to be one of the biggest hits of the year. His performance in the film was appreciated by the critics. Sify's Sonia Chopra wrote, Imran Khan makes his debut playing a character that fits him perfectly. He has a relaxed, laid-back air about him, a nice departure from the rippling muscles that pass off as college kids in our films.

Imran Khan was born Imran Pal, on January 13 1983 in Madison, Wisconsin, USA . He is the nephew of actor Aamir Khandirector Mansoor Khan and the grandson of Nasir Hussain, a noted director and producer As a young child, Khan studied at Bombay Scottish School before transferring to a boarding school in Ooty. He then moved to Sunnyvale, California, where he lived with his father and studied at Fremont High School. He later recalled, "It was weird. It was a lot like they show in the movies. I felt I was living a cliche. I was meeting people who were jocks, nerd and goths and I would say 'This can't be real'." Having graduated high school, Khan moved back to India for a while; during this period, he aspired to become a director. Thus, he went to Los Angeles to get trained in filmmaking at the LA branch of New York Film Academy.Following the completion of his course, Khan moved back to Mumbai and enrolled at Kishore Namit Kapoor's acting institute.
